an excerpt from my Fairy Tales & Their Modern Uses series, to be performed at the New York City Poetry Festival on Governor’s Island, July 27, 2019
aqui estoy, por alli voy, come come come!
Bare breasted, full ripe, heavy; belly plump & creased like a wine grape.
The chorus greets me timorously but I am less coy.
I line them up, el duende, el poeta, el insurgente, el musico.
I set them in the niches of my chest like a consecrated automaton.
