Yania is a poet, writer, and suicide prevention SME of Afro-Indigenous descent from Borikén. She is a Cantomundo fellow and served as their program director during 2020-2021. She was also an Associate Editor fellow for Frontier Poetry. Her poetry and essays have been published or are forthcoming in various  journals including  The Journal of Veteran Studies, Bacopa Literary Review and River River. Her poetry is included in the Até Mais Latinx Futurisms anthology from Deep Vellum press. She is currently revising her debut young adult novel, THOSE WHO CHOSE THE SEA. She splits her time between unceded Paugassett/Pequonnock and Taino/Arawak lands and waters.
